Artist Statement

My work explores geometry as both structure and language. Across sculpture and painting, I investigate how foundational systems—mathematical, architectural, and philosophical—shape the way form is constructed and understood.

Working through analog and digital processes, I translate geometric logic across materials, allowing shifts in scale, repetition, and surface to reveal tension between precision and material reality. Though rooted in order, the work embraces variation introduced through process, gravity, and layered construction.

I am interested in how ancient systems persist within contemporary frameworks—how structure operates not as rigidity, but as a generative tool. Through modular assembly, layered grids, and controlled constraints, I build frameworks that allow complexity, movement, and transformation to emerge.

Bio

Clark Goeman earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Michigan State University in 2011 with a concentration in graphic design, and continued his studies in ceramics through a post-baccalaureate program. He holds a Master of Fine Arts from Cranbrook Academy of Art (2017).

Based in Hamtramck, Michigan, Goeman maintains an interdisciplinary studio practice encompassing ceramic sculpture and painting. His work investigates geometric systems through analog and digital fabrication processes, exploring how structure, material, and method translate across media.

In addition to his studio work, Goeman has taught in community art programs and contributes to arts education in the Detroit area.
